The 3D Challenge is an experiment aimed at measuring the impact of 3D instructions over paper instructions for a given product to assembly. For our preliminary analysis, we compared paper vs 3D instructions using a toy assembly.
The results of our tests show a 3X error rate with 1.7X time as required to perform this assembly task. Additional data measures how people would use 3D instructions as oppposed to conventional instructions. Key findings are that all participants prefer the 3D over paper instructions. Even more signifcant is that for those participants that typically ignore paper instructions would, at a minimum, review the 3D on-line using the "Play-all" feature and would then refererence it as needed. This data supports the assumption that many consumers simply do not have the time to read pages of instructions, but would spend a minute or two to review the 3D procedure on-line to get the high level directions.
Because the paper instructions in this experiment are also visual based (no words), our tests do not measure the additional benifits expected due to language barriors or errors related to translated documents.
We invite you to take the 3D challenge and discover the impact that you can expect on your bottom line. Please call us so we can discover this value proposition together!
